English abstract:
This paper investigates the differences on spatial knowledge acquisition when using different presentation forms in the context of GPS-based pedestrian navigation. The acquisition of spatial knowledge based on mobile map, augmented reality (AR), and language (verbal) is analyzed and compared in an empirical test in the city center of Salzburg (Austria). This paper presents the methodology and interprets the results. It is proposed that the results will give some hints for future mobile navigation system development, as navigation system development might need to consider not only how to effectively assist users' navigation tasks, but also how these systems affect users´ spatial knowledge acquisition.
