English abstract:
The aim of this Diploma Thesis is to develop methods for modeling deformations of
regularly structured objects from terrestrial laser scans. As a data basis, a section of an
aqueduct arch, which has the structure of a clinker facade, was scanned in four epochs
in the course of a one-day measurement campaign.
One approach to model the deformations is developed based on approximating B-spline
surfaces. For this purpose, B-spline surfaces are approximating point clouds of two
epochs each. The estimated parameters are the respective control points, which are
subsequently compared under the assumption of the same surface parameterization. By
introducing the control points into the congruence model, local deformations in the control
polygon shall be detected and conclusions shall be drawn on the areal deformations
of the object. To check the influence of the point cloud´s structure on the deformation
result, a previous segmentation is performed. In this process, points measured in the
joints are eliminated from the point cloud. Therefore a method is developed to optimize
an initial region growing segmentation result.
The second method for modeling the deformations shall benefit from the structural
properties of the point clouds. This is realized by using the radiometric properties of
the individual points through converting the point clouds of two epochs into intensity
images. In these intensity images, prominent image points (so-called keypoints) are
detected by applying the Förstner-Operator. The description of the detected keypoints
by the BRISK-Operator allows the performance of a point matching of the two
images. Corresponding keypoints are subsequently restransformed into 3D coordinates.
A robust 3D Helmert transformation is used to detect both rigid body motion between
pairs of 3D keypoints. Those keypoints which are detected as outliers are suspected of
deformation and their position is checked accordingly.
To validate the two methods, additional epoch comparisons are performed using the
M3C2 algorithm. These show that no significant deformations occur in any epoch comparison.
The results of the deformation analysis based on approximating B-spline surfaces
are influenced by the correlations between the control points. Thus, a statement
about deformations under introduction of the control points into the congruence model
cannot be trusted. A previous segmentation slightly improves the results. The deformation
analysis based on corresponding keypoints confirms the absence of deformations in
all epoch comparisons.
