"Wi-Fi Positioning for Seamless and Ubiquitous PNT for Urban, Transitional and Indoor Environments";
Talk: Guest Lecture at the Department of Geomatics of the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur, Kanpur, India (invited); 2019-07-11.

English abstract:
Many applications nowadays require positioning in complex urban, indoor and transitional environments whereby usually all available signals and techniques shall be employed to deliver robust localization. These signals are usually referred to as signals-of-opportunity. For the most prominent signal-of-opportunity, i.e., Wireless Fidelity (Wi-Fi), novel approaches using location fingerprinting are introduced and discussed. In several case studies the potential of these technologies and techniques are demonstrated. Starting from the general Positioning, Navigation and Timing (PNT) challenges the research work at TU Wien - Vienna University of Technology and with colleagues in international collaboration are presented. The talk aims at showcasing the requirements for PNT applications in combined out-/indoor and transitional environments and their possible solutions. A major step forward is the integration of several sensors and sensor fusion which is discussed using the example of positioning and navigation with smartphones and other similar mobile devices.
