English abstract:
We present early results of a novel UAV-borne topo-bathemetric laser profiler (Riegl BathyCopter). The sensor was mounted on an octocopter UAV carrier platform (RiCopter) and was flown over a study area at the Pielach River (Lower Austria). 12 cross sections and a longitudinal section (200 m) were measured and compared to ground truth check points which were independently surveyed with a total station. The experiment has shown that the new topo-bathymetric UAV-based profiler delivers reliable water surface levels and shallow water depths and constitutes a cost-effective and safe alternative to terrestrial data acquisition for confined study areas.
