"Der Grenzstein als Symbol für das Grundeigentum soll UNESCO Welterbe werden";

In Austria currently a proposal is going to be prepared to register "boundaries & boundary marks" into the UNESCO World Heritage List. The first step - the application for being registered on the national "tentative list" was submitted to the responsible authorities in summer 2013. The project itself is open for other countries to join.
The system of land registration and cadastre is regarded as potential World Heritage because of the long tradition, its dynamic development, and its peace-enhancing importance. It contributes to all of the six UNESCO criteria for inclusion in the World Heritage List, particularly criteria (ii) "significant exchange of human values" and (iv) "excellent example of ... a technological ensemble".
"Boundaries & boundary marks" are visible evidence of land registry and cadastre. Therewith they are symbols of land property and also for an excellent collaborative work between the arts of law and surveying. Today any spatial development would be impossible without it.
In addition to a presentation of essential points of the World Heritage Convention the necessary steps for the intended enrollment into the list are outlined and the current status of the project is described. Finally, the benefits of an inscription of "boundaries & boundary marks " in the World Heritage List are summarized.

In Österreich wird ein Antrag für die Aufnahme von "Grenzen & Grenzsteine" in die UNESCO-Welterbeliste vorbereitet. Als erste dafür notwendiger Schritt wurde im Sommer 2013 das Ansuchen um Aufnahme in eine nationale "Vorschlagsliste" bei den zuständigen Stellen eingereicht. Das Projekt ist offen für weitere Partnerstaaten.
Das System Grundbuch und Kataster ist aufgrund der langen Tradition, der Entwicklungsdynamik sowie der friedensschaffenden Bedeutung als potentielles Weltkulturerbe anzusehen. Es leistet einen Beitrag zu allen sechs UNESCO-Kriterien für eine Aufnahme in die Welterbe-Liste, besonders zu den Kriterien (ii) "bedeutender Austausch menschlicher Werte" und (iv) "hervorragendes Beispiel ... eines technologischen Ensembles". "Grenzen & Grenzsteine" sind sichtbare Zeichen von Grundbuch und Kataster. Damit sind sie auch Symbole für das Grundeigentum sowie für ein großartiges Gemeinschaftswerk von Rechts- und Vermessungskunst, ohne das heute keinerlei Raumentwicklung möglich ist.
Neben einer Vorstellung wesentlicher Punkte der Welterbe-Konvention werden im Beitrag die notwendigen Schritte für die Eintragung in die Liste skizziert sowie der derzeitige Stand des Projekts beschrieben. Abschließend werden die Vorteile einer Aufnahme von "Grenzen & Grenzsteine" in die Welterbe-Liste aufgezeigt.
