Talk: AgA, Bonn (invited); 2011-09-05 - 2011-09-06.

English abstract:
GIS has historically been used by public authorities or researchers for administrating or processing large amounts of spatial data. With the occurrence of GPS-enabled devices and volunteered geographic information, individuals are becoming producers of more and more spatial data. We argue that it is time for GIS to take the next step and aim at non-expert users. A personal GIS enables ordinary people to use GIS as a means to organise, maintain and analyse their own and personal geographic information. This paper describes a coarse outline of how a personal GIS should look like and what it can/should do for the users.
