Social networks allow users to connect and find information that is interesting for them. When they use coordinates of users, places, companies or pieces of information in general as additional component they become geosocial networks. Caused by the increasing availability of mobile devices with positioning sensors the integration of coordinates in various online services is likely. This could lead to a new way of accessing information on the web: via geographic relations instead in addition to contextual relations. This could be a main step towards ubiquitous geoinformation on the Web. This paper is a basic introduction to geosocial networks that covers possible chances and problems in this field.

Soziale Netzwerke bieten eine Vernetzung ihrer Nutzerinnen und das einfache Auffinden von für sie interessanten Informationen. Wird zusätzlich auch die Geokomponente in Form von Koordinaten von Nutzerinnen, Objekten, Firmen oder Informationseinheiten miteinbezogen, spricht man von geosozialen Netzwerken. Durch die steigende Verbreitung mobiler Endgeräte mit Ortungssensorik ist von einer Anreicherung von vielen Services mit Koordinaten zu rechnen. Dies würde einen neuen Ansatz der Informationsexploration im Web über geographische Zusammenhänge als Ergänzung der inhaltlichen Zusammenhänge ermöglichen. Dies könnte ein wesentlicher Schritt hin zu ubiquitärer Geoinformation im Web sein. Dieser Beitrag fasst die Grundzüge geosozialer Netzwerke zusammen und schildert Chancen und Risiken, die damit in Verbindung stehen.
