English abstract:
The International Cartographic Association (ICA) has been calling to the Barbara Petchenik Childrenīs Map Competition "Children Map Their World" in every second year since 1993. The goal is to promote a graphical representation of the world by children's hands. The competition is named after the former vice president of the ICA Barbara Petchenik whose cartographic work was largely devoted to kids.
In 2009, the ninth international children's drawing competition was organized and Austria has participated for the first time. The Austrian Cartographic Commission of the Austrian Geographical Society, and the Research Group Cartography at the Vienna University of Technology organized this contest for Austria in accordance to the ICA rules. All information about the Austrian competition 2009 and the Austrian entries can be found on the website http://cartography.tuwien.ac.at/bpetchenik/.
This paper aims to introduce this competition Austria-wide and to present the first experiences, circumstances and results.
