The graphical preparation of multimedia 3D maps, similar to traditional cartography, follows semiotic guidelines
with the intention to maximise benefit in gaining and transmitting spatial related information. The complexity
of virtual 3D space with specific preparation of information becomes understandable with the help of spatial
perception, communication theory and media dependant semiotics. The structuring of 3D characteristic and
elements seems to be helpful for the development of semiotic guidelines. Thus this contribution should elucidate
starting considerations and methodological approaches for 3D cartography.

Die graphische Aufbereitung multimedialer 3D Karten folgt, ähnlich der traditionellen Kartographie, semiotischen
Richtlinien, die mit einem möglichst großen Informationsgewinn die Vermittlung des Inhaltes gewährleisten
sollen. Mit Hilfe der Raumperzeption, Kommunikationstheorie und medienabhängigen Semiotik wird
die Komplexität des virtuellen 3D Raumes mit spezifischer Informationsaufbereitung begreiflich. Eine Strukturierung
der 3D Charakteristik und Elemente scheint für die Entwicklung von semiotischen Vorschriften sinnvoll.
Anfängliche Überlegungen und visualisierungsmethodische Ansätze für 3D Kartographie sollen in diesem
Beitrag erläutert werden.
